Psi Chi General Information
What is Psi Chi?
Psi Chi is the national honors society in psychology. Our club strives to provide information, lectures, social events, and networking opportunities in the psychology department for our members.
How do I join?
Applications are available on blackboard, in the Psi Chi office, LS 114, or during meetings. Fill out an application and turn it in with payment, $80, by October 23rd. Applications may be turned in to the psychology department, during meetings, or during Psi Chi office hours which are posted outside of our office. If no one is there, please slide the packed under the door.
How do I know if I accepted into Psi Chi?
Applications will be reviewed beginning October 23rd. As soon as all the applications have been sorted through, an e-mail will be sent out informing you of your acceptance. Psi Chi is not selective with their applicants. If you meet the criteria and have attached your payment, you will be accepted into the club.
What is the criterion to be in Psi Chi?
• Registration for major or minor that is psychological in nature (ex. CSP, CFD, social work)
• Minimum of 9 units in psychology with a 3.0 GPA
• Minimum overall GPA of 3.00
• Minimum of 3 semesters in college
Can I be in both Psi Chi and Psych Club?
Yes! Most of our members are in both clubs. The great thing is that we do all of our activities together, so you cannot tell who is in Psi Chi or in Psych Club. Also helps to build more for your CV.
When Can I start to be active in the club?
ASAP. Even though you may not have been informed of your application process, please come to our events and start to earn your points. The more you participate the more you will enjoy the club.
What are points and what does it mean to be active?
Points are earned by attending events and meetings. In order to be “active” you must earn 18 points each semester. Many members earn more than that because points are so easily accessible. For each Psi Chi meeting, Wednesdays 1-2 HT 183, you earn 1 point. We also offer points for attending events, lectures, brown bags, walks, and socials.
If you have been active for two semesters, does not need to be consecutive, you have earned an "Active Member Cord." This is a white cord symbolizing that you have been active in the club. This is only available to those who have been active and is not for purchase. It is a symbol of your effort in the club. General merchandise is sold for all members only during the end of spring semester. Psi Chi and Psych Club count their points together, so you do not need to be active in both. If you plan on joining Psi Chi but are not eligible now, apply for Psych Club. One semester of active membership in Psych Club may be counted towards Psi Chi.
What’s in it for me?
Psi Chi is a great way to become involved in school activities. Additionally, being a member demonstrates academic excellence in the field of psychology.
Where are the meetings?
Weekly meetings are held in HT 183 on Wednesdays from 1-2.
How can I get involved?
Fill out an application and start attending events. Easy as that!
How do I become an officer?
Officer positions are available for an academic year. We interview for new officers at the end of spring semester. If you are considering being an officer, we encourage you to talk to officers and get involved as much as you can. There are always extra things that need to be done, and you can start helping out now. Let us know if you are interested!
